Pilot Party Ep 03 | Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Hey muh frands! Today I'm handing over the reigns of this whole show notes thing to my podcasting partner in crime, Daniel, because A) I'm busy and B) I don't know, I guess I thought it might be fun to hear from a different voice on this blog every once in a while. Anyway, without further adieu, here's your man of the hour, Daniel, to tell you all about our most recent episode of the podcast.

What's up, y'all! It's me, Daniel (Christy's husband and podcast co-host), crashing in to tell you about the newest episode of Pilot Party!

In this episode, Christy and I discuss the pilot of a show we both dearly love, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The show centers on the story of a girl (Ellie Kemper) who was abducted by a cult leader at a young age and is rescued after living fifteen years as a captive in an underground bunker. While the premise is admittedly dark, the show is actually a hilarious comedy about the joys and challenges of building a new life in New York City.

In this episode of Pilot Party, we discuss the influence of movies and television shows that are set in New York City. On that theme, we also discuss our own personal New York highs and lows, including that one time where we met a member of the Kimmy Schmidt cast. Also, Christy shares not one, but two of her favorite TV theme songs, in addition to the theme song for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (which she claims is the best theme song OF ALL TIME).

Spoiler Alert: We have seen the entirety of both seasons of this show, so there are some mild spoilers for future episodes, but nothing that should wreck your enjoyment. Plus, it's a comedy, so we're really all just here for the jokes, right?

If you need a quick recap of what goes on in the pilot, you can watch it on Netflix (it's just 24 minutes), or you can check out a quick synopsis a la Wikipedia.

Also, in this episode, Christy talks about and sings along with both the That Girl theme song and The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song, so we thought it would be a good idea to share those videos with you guys here as well. Check it:
